March is National Nutrition Month! This is a great time to think about ways we can choose healthier foods.

Nutritionists tell us that whole grains are a great source of many important nutrients that support healthy aging. Whole grains contain all the essential parts of the grain—the bran, the endosperm and the germ. When grains are processed, many of the naturally occurring nutrients are removed. Even if you are accustomed to white flour and processed rice and the like, you will quickly be converted to the rich, more complex flavors of grains that are closer to their natural state. Enjoy whole grains in bread, cereal, pasta, granola, as a delicious side dish, even in cookies and pastries.
